Meet the Landes Family
I started raising goats with my family, Dennis Herrell and Family, in 1994 located near Galveston, Indiana. We showed our goats throughout the nation and were very competitive. My parents sold the herd in 2007 all except 2 alpines, GCH Sylvia and GCH Sugar, and 2 Nubians, GCH Denise and SGCH Deva.
However, I found a goat, IR-Ranch NCS You Don't Say, from our original herd that I bought back through a friend, Stephanie Cochran, while I was still living at home. Then I married John Landes and with help we AIed that lonely alpine goat and she took in 2012! So, in 2013 she gave us our start to our herd from her doe kid, IR-Ranch SWZ Shasta. Then in 2014 we asked our friend, Sam Jackson, if we could use Windrush Farms IRS Ronny to breed Shasta! Then in 2015 she had twin Doe kids, Phoebe and Samantha. Which we have built our competitive Alpine herd from Phoebe on a 3-acre farm near Walton, Indiana.
In 2018 we added Nubians back to the herd by getting a doe kid, M*L Legacy Priscilla from our friend, Julie Matthys, to the herd!! Priscilla gave us our beloved buck, Oliver, that was an AI breeding to IR-Ranch Sam Mark of Davinci which was out of SGCH Deva!!! We also acquired another Nubian doe kid, Pheonix Steel Filigree from a friend, Laura Shell, that same year. Steel gave us 1 doe kid, Fancy, who started our doe line.
In 2021 we added a LaMancha but we have sort of kept this breed to one. We still have 1 LaMancha in the herd but really don't see this breed expanding like the other two breeds have. We will probably always keep 1-2 LaManchas out in the pasture with the rest of the herd.
Breeds of Goats that reside on our Farm
We would like to thank you for your interest in our herd. We have a select herd of French Alpines and Purebred Nubians. The selectiveness of our breeding program helps to provide an elegant, graceful, competitive, and productive dairy animal.
The vet comes out to look over the dairy goats and test for CAE annually.
All of our kids are bottle raised. They also get treated with Sulfadimethoxine 12.5% for coccidia prevention once a month. The kids are raised on a special mix of grain from our local feed mill and top-quality alfalfa hay from our local farmers at Forgey's Custom Hay since 1994.
